US PRESIDENT NOMINATED FOR NOBEL PEACE PRIZE

 ~ BHRIGU

USA president, Donald Trump has been into headlines since he started his tenure. Donald Trump has again topped the headlines as he is nominated for the Nobel peace prize, it is one of the five Nobel Prizes established by the Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel. The other prizes include Chemistry, Physics, Physiology or Medicine, and Literature. Trump’s name was put forward by Christian Tybring-Gjedde who is a member of the Norwegian Parliament for the far-right Progress Party. He marked that Trump should be considered for the prize because of his exceptional work and efforts for the peace agreement which took place between the United Arab

Emirates and Israel. The agreement further opened up peace in the Middle East. He too marked that Mr. Trump has a straight away chance of getting the Nobel prize and he satisfies all the required criteria and yardsticks. This is not the first time that Donald Trump has been nominated for the prize. The US president was nominated for the peace prize in 2018 as well for his labor to bring an accord between South Korea and North Korea. To bring-Gjedde was also one of two Norwegian lawmakers who nominated him for the prize in 2018.

According to official numbers and reports, by last week a total of 318 candidates have been nominated for the 2020 Peace Prize, which includes 211individuals and 107 organizations. This is the fourth-highest number of candidates in history ever. The highest was in 2016 when the number reached 376 nominations.

This is not the first time that any US president has been nominated for the honorable prize and is a strong nominee for winning it. Barack Obama, former US president was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize in his first year in office that was 2009, for his exceptional work in cooling down tensions with the Muslim community after the incidents of  9/11 and playing a major role by helping the world to get rid of nuclear weapons. The committee’s decision shocked many. Even Close supporters of Obama marked that it was a mistake by awarding the US President with the Peace Prize.

The Nobel peace prize winner this year will be announced on 9th October by the Norwegian Nobel committee. We will have to wait to see whether the US President grabs it this time or not.

Russia’s Melting Snow May Cost the World Economy 2 Billion Dollars

The impact of climate change on a vast permafrost area of Russia has become a principal apprehension for the country. This is primarily due to thawing of once permanently frozen ground which covers more than half of Russia. The liquefication of snow is putting buildings, pipelines and other infrastructure in peril. This problem needs to be addressed imperatively because the scale of damage will escalate every year. Rising temperatures are the epicentre of anxiety for mining, oil and gas companies. The permafrost area accounts for 15% of Russia’s oil and 80% of its gas operations. It is also home to miners including MMC Norilsk Nickel PJSC, the biggest refined nickel and palladium producer. Multiple new craters have been found in the gas-rich Yamal region, which is a risk to pipelines. By 2050, global warming may jeopardise about a fifth of structures and infrastructure across the permafrost area, costing about $84 billion. Residential real estate, worth $53 billion, might be als...
