WITH RAFALE FIGHTER JET IN ITS ARSENAL; INDIA FORGING ITS KEY TIES WITH FRANCE

 ~AMRITBANI

Since India's independence, India and France have been strategically  cooperating with each other forged over several decades due to the common values and friendly relationship they share with each other .India and France are now penning a fresh chapter in their defence ties with the enlistment of 36 Rafale fighter jets( the first batch of five Rafale fighter jets has formally been inducted ) which will ensure that India will have an edge in shielding and defending its people over the entire region . The Rafale jets, produced by French aerospace are known for air prevalence and precision strikes. The acquisition of the Rafale underscores India's pledge to defence modernization.

Recently ties between India and China have frayed due to the ongoing tensions along the border. There is a plausibility of a two front war with China and Pakistan therefore the immediate focus of the IAF is at integrating the Rafales with India’s existing air defence systems as quickly as possible.

Though India is looking to emerge from the economic aftereffects of the stringent lockdown , this huge investment is viewed more as a vote of confidence in the Indian economy as it would help India to decouple their supply chains from china ,therefore ,seen as an act to attract more investors and firms. Also it is more of an asset critical to national security .

The strategic cooperation is advancing admirably as the two nations have collaborated on an equivalent foot and are exceptionally aware and respectful towards their sovereignty and Independance. India has also shown it's support and solidarity towards France many a times like it provided France the essential medicines during the peak of this Covid-19 pandemic . Indian pilots also train regularly with their air force and naval force pilots. This Indian - france partnership would help lay a global blueprint for successful defence cooperation between two major democratic nations and could prove to be more vital in the future.

By Xeena Mehta The officials of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) uphold a list of countries that categorises countries as “developing”, “developed”, and “least-developed”. Countries that are classified as “developing” have permissions to export certain goods to the U.S. without being hit by heavy legal tariffs that are bind to be imposed on goods from “developed” countries.
