India has such a huge population who uses mobile technology. Telecom sector is the second-highest income earner for the government after revenue tax.
While telecom networks has been exponentially growing, India is still largely dependent on the import of telecom equipment. The expense of Telecom imports have been of more than 1 lakh crore every year .
Now the government wants to reduce the telecom inputs when it comes to the Indian telecom sector. First because of the financial issues and secondly due to the security issues, the sovereignty of the country. If we start importing from certain countries then there will be the concentration of supply chain in the hands of the few countries and that could be used against india in any scenario where India becomes the enemy of that country.
The emphasis now is on strengthening the production of equipment in India and fulfilling the aim of becoming self-reliant.
The prevailing broad base of telecom and internet subscribers, affordable broadband services, integrated with the power of developed technologies like cloud, Artificial Intelligence, and strategies are paving the way for a digitally-strong `new India.
As the existing international supply chains are getting disrupted and new opportunities are arising in telecom advancement , India is poised to play a powerful role in the 5G era.
