Gearing up for the upcoming festive season,
India’s two greatest e-commerce players, Amazon and Flipkart, have cumulatively
recruited over 1.4 lakh temporary workers across the supply chain in
preparation for their festive sales this year.
Flipkart said it had recruited 50K people
across its supply chain, logistics arm and customer support and expects the
indirect jobs to have been augmented by 30% as compared to last year. Amazon
India, on the other hand, has claimed to have created more than 90K direct
temporary employment opportunities in many cities across the country like
Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore.
Amazon has estimate 15 customer service sites
across 11 cities offering support to customers and has ramped up it's delivery
service partner network with over 1.4k delivery stations. Flipkart has generated
additional indirect jobs at the seller location in packaging and warehouse
management. the e-commerce company is also contingent upon these sellers for nourishing
the right training to the hired talent. The hiring and upskilling of the freshly
recruited staff are in line with the government’s National Skill Development
Mission and will provide a major lift to local employment and the economy.
Such e-commerce companies see a large chunk of
their sales during the festive season, so they start preparing for festive
sales months in advance, ramping up logistics and recruiting thousands of
temporary workers to make sure that product deliveries are on time. By creating
employment and qualifying the sellers to scale their businesses during this
time, they play a vital role in driving the industry and subsequently the
economy.
