How this Entrepreneur Built a 250 Cr FMCG Company with Direct Selling


At the age where most of a person's attitude towards life is erratic and unplanned, Sujit Jain, after graduating from Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies in 2000, started his computer training institute in Pune. He developed a product that would help a person to create his website. But the only resource lacking was funds. Sujit came up with the strategy of direct selling and in no time got 80 orders.

By 2002, the number increased to 40,000 with 500-fold growth which marked the beginning of Netsurf Communications Pvt Ltd. Starting from 2003, the duo accumulated 25 lakh and even acquired Ajay Biotech Ltd. Netsurf distributed these products under the brand name of Biofit.Today, millions of farmers trust Biofit for higher yield and better farming. In 2004, Netsurf expanded its operations to household products: “Naturamore". Naturamore holds 33 percent share in Netsurfs turnover. By 2007, Netsurf had a training and supporting system for the direct sellers, with more than half a million of direct sellers, they were known as the best retailers across industry. Netsurf even launched a personal care range under Herbs & more and in 2014, its home care range, Clean & More. By 2015, the company had crossed the Rs 100 crore turnover mark.

Today, its product portfolio consists of 57 FMCG products in five distinct categories that are natural, organic, or herbal. The company records an annual turnover of Rs 250 crore and is present in 25 states across India and delivering to around 10,000 pin codes. Netsurf even launched its first business app in 2016 which assists the direct sellers to check their day to day activities. Sujit says that today, more than 3,34,000 direct sellers are using the app. It even introduced a geo-location-based system for its direct sellers.
