Explained: Is Artificial Intelligence a threat to several professions in India?

~pranjal

Time is never stagnant and so is evolution. Technology has led to modernisation which further became the reason for globalisation.

Revolution of the 21st century

A short term pain and a long term gain hold a very true statement in the 21st century. The transition towards the Artificial Intelligence has made a significant step towards an improved living standard. But, does that mean that AI is a possible threat to several professions in India?

The negative impact of Artificial Intelligence on the jobs

In short, the inequality between the highly skilled and low skilled workers will increase as they always have access to higher knowledge and they always gain an edge on the upcoming opportunities.

The low skilled workers may face a problem while getting adapted towards the change. The limited availability of resources and low skills would affect their livelihood.

The positive impact of Artificial Intelligence on the jobs

The shift toward AI has led to closure of traditional jobs but at the same time it has also led to the creation of some new tech related jobs. It has created a path for new jobs to come which aren’t very complex and challenging and they also have a foundation of education and a set of new skills.

Jobs have emerged through this like SEO content experts, YouTube Blogger, Software developers and so on which were unheard of in the old times.

Manually operated jobs such as cleaning and painting may go for automation but those which require cognitively high social skills such as marketing professionals, social media personalities and medical professional cannot go for automation.

Thus, the innovation and development of new technology surely carves a new way for individuals.

Conclusion

The government must try to frame policies and incentives to create employment opportunities in areas which are going to be the first to lose jobs with the shift towards AI.

It’s up to us to up-skill ourselves and look at means and ways to stay in line with the current trends and demands of the industry. We need to take pertinent step to prepare the young workforce by exposing them to the tech enabled future of works with machine learning and increased automation.

Online training programmes and inclusion of AI/coding in the education curriculum will turn out to be a great initiative and the government is working upon it by redesigning the syllabus in the schools as mentioned in the NEP 2020.

New start-ups such as Up-grad and White hat junior have started to prepare the youth of the country to significantly adapt with the upcoming revolution through AI.

Russia’s Melting Snow May Cost the World Economy 2 Billion Dollars

The impact of climate change on a vast permafrost area of Russia has become a principal apprehension for the country. This is primarily due to thawing of once permanently frozen ground which covers more than half of Russia. The liquefication of snow is putting buildings, pipelines and other infrastructure in peril. This problem needs to be addressed imperatively because the scale of damage will escalate every year. Rising temperatures are the epicentre of anxiety for mining, oil and gas companies. The permafrost area accounts for 15% of Russia’s oil and 80% of its gas operations. It is also home to miners including MMC Norilsk Nickel PJSC, the biggest refined nickel and palladium producer. Multiple new craters have been found in the gas-rich Yamal region, which is a risk to pipelines. By 2050, global warming may jeopardise about a fifth of structures and infrastructure across the permafrost area, costing about $84 billion. Residential real estate, worth $53 billion, might be als...
